No. TikTok does not notify anyone when you unfollow them. There is no push notification, no entry in their activity feed, and nothing in the app that assembles a list of accounts that recently left.
That is the answer to the question as asked. The reason people keep asking it is that “no notification” and “nobody can tell” are two different claims, and only the first one is true.

How people find out anyway
- They check your profile. The button is the tell. If it says Friends, the follow goes both ways; if it says Follow or Follow back, it does not.
- Their feed changes. Your videos stop appearing in their Following feed, which is noticeable if you posted regularly.

What unfollowing actually does
It does:
- Remove their posts from your Following feed.
- Drop your name out of their follower list and count.
- Take effect immediately.
It does not:
- Stop their videos reaching your For You page. That feed is built from watch behaviour, not from who you follow — unfollowing a creator you watch a lot changes surprisingly little there.
- Remove your likes, comments or old messages.
- Prevent them from following you, or from messaging you.
- Delete anything on their side. Their account, views and comments are untouched.
If you want the content gone but not the follow
Unfollowing is a blunt instrument for what most people actually want, which is usually “stop showing me this”. The alternatives:
- Not interested on individual videos, which teaches the recommendation system directly and is the only option that affects the For You page.
- Muting, where available, which keeps the follow relationship intact while hiding the posts — invisible to them and reversible without an awkward re-follow.
- Blocking, which is the loudest option: it removes the follow in both directions and is immediately visible if they look.
